Mangos, bananas, almonds and sweets are offered as donations on this day. On Dwadashi (day after Ekadashi), donations and new cloths are offered to Brahmins.

How To Observe the Fast 

1. The one who observes Prabodhini fast should have utmost devotion, only then he will be able to witness the results. 
2. The person should wake up early morning, take bath and go to a temple and chant the above given Mantra 108 times.
3. Meat, onions, garlic and Masoor Dal (red lentils) should not be consumed on this day. 

What Should Be Avoided On This Day

1. Getting a haircut is considered inauspicious on this day
2. Sweeping the house with a broom is avoided, as killing tiny organisms (even subconsciously) is considered a sin. 
3. Plucking of leaves from trees is also avoided, only fallen leaves can be used for any purposes.

Ruling planets are found with the help of position of Moon, Lagna (ascendant) and day Lord and rule the moment of events.

Ruling planets are the planets that rule the moment of an event. Prof. Shri. KS. Krishnamurti (“Jothida Marthanda”), the founder of the great Stellar and sub Lord theory (KP system), gave more prominence to the use of Ruling Planets (RP).

To emphasise the importance of ruling planets in KP system, there is a saying “Without RP, there is No KP”.

Ruling Planets (RPs) Dictated By Shri KSK

At a particular moment, the position of the Moon, the Lagna (Ascendant) and the day Lord are taken to find the ruling planets as follows:

1. Moon is posited in whose sign (Moon sign Lord)
2. Moon is posited in which star of that sign (Moon star Lord)
3. Lagna is posited in whose sign (Lagna sign Lord)
4. Lagna is posited in whose star Lord (Lagna star Lord)
5. Lord that rules that Day (Day Lord)

Therefore, according to Prof. Shri K.S.K., the original ruling planets were, Moon’s sign Lord & star Lord, Lagna’s sign Lord & star Lord and the Day Lord. 

But, as KP System is mainly associated with sub Lord, KP stalwarts later found the importance of sub-lord of both Moon and Lagna as the ruling planets and added them into the list of ruling planets.

So, the Ruling Planets are:

1. Moon sign Lord - Moon Star Lord - Moon sub Lord
2. Lagna sign Lord - Lagna star Lord - Lagna sub Lord
3. Day Lord

Nodes that represent any ruling planet by occupation of their sign, aspect or conjunction with them, become the ruling planets.

Apart from the above mentioned planets, the following ones can also be included in the list:

1. The planets that are in the star of the above ruling planets.
2. The planets that are conjoined to or aspected by the above ruling planets.
3. The planets that are posited in Lagna.

Therefore, after looking at all the possibilities, sometimes many or all the 9 planets would appear as the ruling planets.

But, stronger ruling planets have to be found by them after proper study.

1. Nodes that are connected to these Ruling planets become stronger.
2. The planets that are in the star and sub of other ruling planets become stronger.
3. The planets that appear many times are stronger.
4. Planets that are retro become weaker, or to be considered with care according to the case.

There are different schools of thoughts about the ruling planets in the star and sub of a retro planet. Similarly, there are many aspects to be seen to check and find the stronger ruling planets.

Uses Of Ruling Planets

In general practice, ruling planets are considered when an Astrologer takes up a case for analysis or when a question is raised to him with an urge. The astrologers use them for:

1. The divine fact is that when a question is raised, the answer to it lies in that only. The role of the astrologer here is to make use of it and find the answer. The planets that are ruling the moment of the question when it is raised, will reflect the answer in the time chart of that particular moment.

2. Moreover, the ruling planets that appear when a question is raised with urge or when an Astrologer starts his analysis, will also rule the moment during the fructification of the event in question.

3. Ruling planets are useful as a tool to guide the Astrologers in finding and fixing the stronger planets that could fructify the event in question.

6. The ruling planets of the moment (when astrologer sits for analysis) help in finding the accuracy of the birth time of that chart. These ruling planets will be connected to the ruling planets at the time of birth of the child and the running Dasha Bhukti Andra Lords.

7. One of the most important use of ruling planets is that they help in the rectification of the birth time. When an Astrologer sits to correct a birth-time or finds an unknown birth time, the ruling planets of the moment of judgment will be connected to the Lagna (Ascendant) rulers of the native.

3 Main Teachings Of The Guru 

Listed below are the three main teachings of Guru Nanak Dev Ji: 

Naam Japo: It is related to the eternal devotion toward the Almighty. The great Guru always believed in warbling the Holy Name, and therefore remembering God all the time.

Vund Chako: He always believed in sharing and caring for others, particularly with the ones who are in need.

Kirat Karo: He always believed in earning an honest living by making sure that no deed leads to exploitation or cheating.

The root of his teachings was simply ‘the equality of humans’ without the distinction of caste and creed. He preached against the bias and injustice that took place because of caste, status and things related to it. The Guru not just preached these concepts, but also adopted practical measures to achieve the same. He targeted the reasons and people causing violence in the society. This great reformer strongly objected to the brutal activities took place in the society.

Guru Nanak Dev Ji always believed in ‘the equality of men and women’. He had great respect for females; and uplifted the position of women by the way of spreading a message, which is mentioned below. 

"From woman, man is born; within woman, man is conceived; to woman he is engaged and married. Woman becomes his friend; through woman, the future generations come. When his woman dies, he seeks another woman; to woman he is bound. So, why call her bad? From her, Kings are born. From woman, woman is born; without woman, there would be no one at all. O Nanak, only the True Lord is without a woman." 

Guru Nanak Dev Ji was recognized for his teachings about worshiping one God. He always encouraged a healthy, peaceful and modest way of living. Equality of women and equality of all the human beings is what he taught his followers about.

Temples of Shiva are thronged by devotees to get a glimpse of the Lord. Special Pujas and rituals take the centre place on this day. 

The Nirvana Of Lord Mahavira

This is a time of major celebrations for the Jain community as the day marks the occasion of “Nirvana of Lord Mahavira”. Thousands of devotees from all over India make their way to the Sacred Mount Girnar in Gujarat to witness the special celebrations conducted on this day. 

According to the Jain scriptures, on this day, Lord Mahavira attained the complete knowledge (Nirvana) at Pavapuri. Further, it is also believed that Lord Mahavira’s first disciple Ganadhar Gautam Swami also attained complete knowledge on this day. As such this day is celebrated with much pomp and enthusiasm.

Rituals followed On Kartik Purnima

The Ritualistic Nadi Snan Or River Bath: It is the ritual of taking bath in the holy water of river Ganga. It is believed that one would be rid of the sins committed in not only this birth but all the seven births just by taking this bath. The bath taken in the water of Ganga in Varanasi is considered very holy and is called as Tripura Purnima Snan. 

Ekadashi Rudra Abhishekam: Ekadasi Rudra Abhishekam is a special ritual performed in all the Shiva temples on this special day. It is giving a holy bath to the idol of Lord Shiva by chanting the Rudra Chamakam and Rudra Namakam 11 times. 

Lighting Of Diyas: This is a ritual followed by one and all which crosses the barriers of caste and religion. Many devotees light Diyas (earthen lamps) in front of Tulasi plant and some also follow the ritual of donating Diyas, which is called as Diya Daanam.
